  1. In October as part of the Chatham 300, you will be able to attend a lecture about this book and what it represents.

Beach Wars: Ten Thousand Years on a Barrier Beach”
    presented by William Sargent.

    On 10/9/2012, Time: 10:30 am
    Location: Eldredge Pulic Library

In March 2012 the Cape Cod National Seashore demolished 5 North Beach Camps threatened by sea level rise. It was the latest battle in an ongoing war that has been going on for thousands of years. This lecture will put some of these recent events in the 10,000 year history of America’s barrier beaches.

It will concentrate on the times when 25 families lost their homes after inlets opened in Chatham’s barrier beach in 1987 and again in 2007.

It will attempt to draw some lessons from these events that can be used by the other 200 barrier beach communities in the United States and the 3.7 million US citizens who live less than three feet above the sea.
